The concept of chemistry is interesting because in many ways, culture evolves but company’s seek to control that evolution, even if they don’t. When you bring new people into a company, the culture changes, and so does the chemistry.

However, the framework around chemistry may allow us to be more honest about this evolution and change. We don’t typically change our core values or the way we describe our culture, even when it shifts. If we do, it’s over time.

With chemistry, this is natural because so many new, disparate elements are coming together, and it’s supposed to come from the bottom up, from the individual to the collective.

I think in many ways chemistry and culture are the same except in the way they are imposed, with the latter being mandated from above and the former coming from everyone all the time.
